About

Hello, and welcome to Going Fishing!

I'm Christene—an avid angler with a passion for coarse fishing, match fishing, and sharing the journey with others. Whether you're a weekend pleasure angler, a club-level competitor, or someone curious about dipping your toe into the world of match fishing, you're in the right place.

My Angling Journey

I first picked up a rod in the early 1970s, drawn to the quiet joy of pleasure fishing. Back then, there was no internet, no YouTube tutorials—just magazines, books, and plenty of trial and error. With no mentor in the family, I learned everything the hard way. Like many beginners, I had more blanks than bites at first!

Over time, I joined a fishing club, learned from others, and developed a lasting love for the sport. But life has its priorities: work, music, and family, and fishing slipped into the background. Still, I always held onto my gear, knowing I'd be back one day.

Coming Back to the Water

Now retired, I've returned to fishing with fresh energy and a new goal: match fishing. It's something I always admired but never quite had the confidence to pursue. These days, I'm embracing the challenge, learning from every outing, and sharing the journey as I go.

I've been inspired by some of the best: Jamie Hughes, Andy May, Des Shipp, Andy 'Bagger' Bennett, and Andy Power, and now I'm mixing their techniques with my own style.

Why This Website?

Going Fishing is where I document this second chapter, offering practical tips, match fishing insights, rig setups, and honest reflections on life back at the bank. I keep things straightforward and jargon-free, making match fishing approachable for anyone interested in giving it a go.

Our Story

We're not your typical angling couple, and that's just fine with us. I'm a proud transgender woman, and I share this journey with my amazing wife, Courtney. As a same-sex couple, we've built this site not just to share our fishing adventures but to create an inclusive, welcoming space in a sport that hasn't always felt open to everyone.

If you're LGBTQ+, new to fishing, or just looking for a place where the focus is on passion, learning, and progress, know that you're very welcome here.

Everyone's Welcome on This Bank

Fishing is more than just a hobby—it's a community, a passion, and a way to recharge. Whether you're here to follow our journey, grab a tip or two, or simply enjoy the stories, we're glad you stopped by.
