Aston Park

Aston Park

Location: - Aston, S26 2EE

Aston Park Fisheries is a large, purpose-built commercial coarse fishery on the eastern edge of Sheffield, widely used for open matches, club bookings, and pleasure fishing. The complex is made up of multiple distinct lakes, each with its own character, but all managed to a consistent commercial standard. It suits anglers who value structure, clear rules, and waters that reward accuracy, feeding discipline, and adaptability.  Aston Park is not a venue for shortcuts. The anglers who do well here are usually the ones who fish what’s in front of them, manage their feed carefully, and allow the peg — and the lake — time to respond.

🎣 Lakes at Aston Park Fisheries

Aston Park is made up of several distinct lakes, each managed with a clear role in mind. While the stocking philosophy is broadly consistent, layout, pressure and how each lake behaves can differ markedly.

Lakes

Bills Lake

An established commercial lake with a straightforward layout that encourages tidy, accurate fishing. Pegs are well spaced and favour fishing straight ahead.

Species present
Carp, F1's, Ide, Roach
Methods
Fish short pole with pellets, Long pole to the far bank with maggots and micros or pellets and micros, Top Tip: Try 4mm pellets across to the far bank and short line with maggots for good results.
Notes
How it usually fishes: Pole and feeder approaches both feature, with consistency and feeding control often more important than chasing short spells.
Seasonal notes: Generally steady through the year, though pressure can influence how quickly fish respond.

Butts Lake

A more compact water compared to the larger match lakes, with a slightly more enclosed feel that places emphasis on control.

Species present
Carp, F1's, Ide, Roach
Methods
Fish pole with micros and pellets short and across to the far bank in about 2'., Top Tip: Fish 4mm expander over micros to the far bank.
Notes
How it usually fishes: Pole fishing plays a big role, particularly on shorter and mid-range lines. Over-feeding can be punished.
Seasonal notes: Can show form swings during colder months; patient, negative approaches often score.

Stable Lake

One of the venue’s best-known lakes and a regular choice for open matches. A balanced commercial layout that allows multiple viable lines. The lake fishes consistently with many methods working throughout the year, and provides good winter sport.

Species present
Carp, F1s, Bream, Tench, Chub, Ide Roach, Perch
Methods
Pole and waggler with pellets, Method feeder and popped-up bread for Carp, Maggot chopped worm and caster for Silvers and Ide, Top Tip: Feed micros and fish a 4mm soft pellet on the hook using a light rig for the large head of skimmers.
Notes
How it usually fishes: Both pole and feeder are effective, often with anglers rotating lines as the session develops. Discipline tends to outperform constant change.
Seasonal notes: Often reliable year-round, making it a popular winter match option.

Lilly Lake

A smaller, more intimate lake that rewards control and precision rather than pace. Depths vary from 4' to 6'.

Species present
Carp, F1's, Ide, Bream, Tench, Roach, Orfe, Crucians, Chub, Perch
Methods
Waggler with Pellet, Method Feeder, Bomb and Bread or Corn, Pole with Pellets. Meat. or Corn, For Silvers and Ide: Fish shallow with maggots on light rigs, Top Tip: Fish half depth with worm and casters and soil (groundbait) to make a cloud, Big Carp to be had down the margins next to the lilly pads
Notes
How it usually fishes: Shorter pole lines and tidy feeding are common approaches. It’s not a lake that responds well to forcing the issue.
Seasonal notes: Can fish well in settled conditions; sudden weather changes often affect it quickly.

Split Lake

A very popular match lake that gives good fishing on all pegs, and well known for its, regular, 100lb catches. Combined with good parking, Split Lake is a must fish lake. Depths vary from 4' to 6'.

Species present
Carp, F1's, Bream, Barbel, Crucians, Roach, Ide, Perch, Chub
Methods
Waggler with pellet, Method feeder, Bomb with Bread, Pole with corn or pellets in margins feeding groundbait and dead maggots., Top Tip: Do not neglect the Silvers. Short with maggot or chopped corm and casters for big Ide and Skimmers
Notes
How it usually fishes: Pole and feeder tactics both feature, with anglers benefiting from keeping plans simple and repeatable.
Seasonal notes: Like much of Aston Park, it tends to reward anglers who let the lake settle before pushing on.

Lanta Lake

Named after a small Thai island, a modern commercial water with clear structure and a match-friendly peg layout, with good access to all pegs and no long walks. Depths vary from 1'6" to 6'

Species present
Carp, Tench, Orfe, Ide, Koi, Bream, Roach, Perch, Chub, Goldfish, Rudd, Golden Rudd
Methods
Pole to the island and the margins., Method feeder to the island if windy and down the centre in winter., Top Tip: Worm and Caster fed in groundbait to the island. Also paste short feeding 4mm pellets
Notes
How it usually fishes: Pole fishing is prominent, with feeders used when conditions suit. Accuracy is more important than distance.
Seasonal notes: In warmer months, steady feeding can hold fish; in winter, bites may come in defined spells.
